We are moving!

Can you guess who's in the pic? circa 1997

The good ship Peopleprint Community Media has been in turbulent waters.  She’s seen many ports and has now found a lovely new harbour!  (near Asda in Rochdale Town Centre). It’s time to splice the main brace me hearties,  anchorage!

A huge thank you to all our volunteers, friends and fellow arts organisations for all the phone calls, emails and offers of help over the past few weeks, we really appreciate the support!  We’ll be sad to leave Kirkholt Community Centre which has been our home for the past 14 years and we’ll miss our lovely neighbours on Kirkway.  This is our 2nd move due to demolition, so we’re hoping this move will be 3rd time lucky!

Plans are afoot for very exciting projects in our new studio!  More news to come and invitations to our opening night will be winging their way to you all very soon!  Thanks again for your support XXX

Next week we will be moving to

Unit 2, Redbrook Mill, Bury Road, Rochdale OL11 4EE

We are keeping the same phone number (01706 630364) but in the event of our line being down for a few days you will be able to reach us on twitter and facebook.

Redwood School work experience present……

Andrew and Louis from Redwood School in Rochdale created a special podcast of “Albert and the lion” in Garageband.  The poem is kindly read by Anne (Youth and community worker).  Andrew and Louis edited the audio and all the sound effects!  We think they did a smashing job!

Becky’s work experience blog

During April I spent two weeks at Peopleprint as part of my work experience, I’d first heard about it through a friend who had been volunteering there for quite some time, when they told me what is was like I thought it sounded like the kind of place for me.

When I first started at Peopleprint, straight away I noticed the friendly and laid back atmosphere that the organization had and it instantly put me at ease. Since starting my placement I feel that Peopleprint has not only given me the chance to become more confident and independent but also to use various equipment and software I would have never had the chance to try.

While working at Peopleprint I have done a range of things, I started off my placement by recording a podcast including interviews of the other volunteers around me, this pushed me out of my comfort zone but gave me the chance to get to know the people I was working with a little bit better, also later in the week I found myself playing around with Motion on an iMac, also learning from others around me and becoming more comfortable with people around me. Later on in the week I even found myself experimenting with a drawing tablet, which I had never used before but always been curious about. Towards the end of the first week I was helping with the annual report, whenever there was something that needed creating on photoshop, I would have a go and try create it, and then send it across to another computer. This made me feel like part of a team and I felt like I had really contributed towards the final product, it made me feel good that I could use my skills to benefit those around me.

Working at Peopleprint was better than I had expected, overall the atmosphere put me at ease and I knew that there wasn’t too much pressure if I couldn’t do something, it was okay to get things wrong and make a few mistakes while using new software. By the end of the second week I really felt like I was part of the team, I have benefited so much from working here, not only in skills but in confidence.

Happy World Community Arts Day!

Happy World Community Arts Day from Peopleprint Community Media!  This is a special day to celebrate arts as a catalyst for caring and sharing.  It’s also Peopleprint’s 27th birthday today and we’d like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers and artists that have contributed to our projects over the years – people will always be at the heart of Peopleprint and we can’t thank everyone enough for their support!

Rachel has drawn a picture in celebration for WCAD and urged me to add that it’s “By Rachel aged 22 and a quarter”  Thanks Rachel!

Photography hack workshop

With 26 years worth of junk stuff that might come in useful, we treated our volunteers to a photography hacks workshop with Rich and Lucas from Lets Go Global.

Here’s what we created:

Two large “soft boxes” – lights that create a soft glow. (Saving around £500!)

We also made weird and wonderful special effects with low tech bits and bobs like this

The dark room was used to experiment with light art photography.  Here’s some of the work created by Peter and Josh

A big thank you to Let’s Go Global for a fantastic workshop! :  )
